Emotional Nottingham Forest fan cries on live TV after Steve Cooper’s sacking

An emotional Nottingham Forest shed tears on live TV when discussing the sacking of Steve Cooper.

The Welshman was officially dismissed by the Premier League club on Tuesday (December 19) after a horrendous run with one win in their last 13 league games. Their form has seen them drop to 17th in the table, just five points above Luton Town, who have a game in hand.

Despite the recent poor performances, Forest fans have found it difficult saying goodbye to the 44-year-old who guided the club back into the Premier League in 2022 for the first time in 23 years.

A few supporters were interviewed by BBC East Midlands following the news of Cooper's sacking with one fan shedding tears as he wished him well for the future. "I just wish him all the luck in the future, and thank you for everything he's done," the choked-up fan said. "Bit sad, that's sport for you."

Another fan explained just how much Cooper's dismissal affected him, comparing it to a "death in the family". "It genuinely feels like there's been a death in the family. We had 23 years of not being great most of the time and he brought it all together.

"The most incredible couple of seasons and obviously we've lost him. My message to Steve Cooper and his family is to remember he's always be welcome here and he'll never have to pay for a drink in Nottingham that's for sure."

Cooper has since been replaced by former Tottenham and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo who signed a two-and-a-half year contract on Wednesday (December 20). The Portuguese's return to the Premier League comes over a month since he was axed by Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad after going five games without a win.
